CosmiTec's Love Letter, Issue #077 -- Asteroids In Synastry
April 21, 2011
Dear

Repeatedly, readers of our Love Letter have asked us to write something about the Asteroids in matters of love. While we're still investigating this topic, we below give our first and brief thoughts about Asteroids in synastry. Finding the core meaning of an Asteroid is not easy at all and you will find that the Asteroid meanings stil differ among lots of astrologers.

It takes heaps of research, experience and time to uncover the real interpretations. Copying what others say is easy, but (most) often not worth it because of the unreliable, unresearched or just false results.

Also, we're pretty sure there is a difference in meaning between a natal Asteroid and a transiting/progressed Asteroid. The same may hold true for Asteroids in synastry (chart comparison). More about it in our featured article.

After hectic and even turbulent months of March and April, May promises to be calmer and more enjoyable in general.

Carpe Diem!

Love Forecasts for May 2011

Venus at 11° Aries opposes Saturn at 11° Libra around the 1st of May. This is a bummer and your love life cools off. Saturn restricts your commitments in all your relationships. Love is lived at a distance and you are separated from a beloved one. In some cases, travel or a change of the residence is the cause.

However, some of you may feel the wall or mask/facade that others build or show and through which you can't look. This may denote a frustrating time. This is not a time for love but for taking responsbilities.

You may feel alone and even lonely.

Expect financial hurdles and restrictions too. You better don't spend too much money now and better be conservative.

Hesitation and reluctancy are part of the day's energies if you are born around January 2-3, April 2-3, July 4-5 or October 5-6.

Around the same day of May 1, Mars conjuncts Jupiter at 22° Aries favoring taking action. You can make your point clear and get the word out. You tend to focus on education, propagation and getting things done. Progress is in the air.

If you are born around January 6, February 19-20, April 5, May 21, July 7, August 23, October 8-9 or November 22-23, expect financial issues (or expenses) around May 3-4. There can be betrayal (theft?) or some disappointment regarding possessions or financial matters.

For some of these birthdays, seduction is in the air and your fidelity may be questioned.

Around May 9, Mercury and Venus conjoin at 22° Aries. Both planets together bring peace and fortunate agreements. If you want to sign any agreements, now is the time.

Send love letters and messages of love to your beloved ones.

Around May 11 there can be shocking news though, shaking your world. Around that day, Mars enters the earth sign Taurus while Mercury AND Venus together conjunct Jupiter at 24° Aries. Clearly, this day may bring a mixed bag of events -- some very auspicious ones and some terrible ones as well.

The Mercury - Venus - Jupiter combo at 24° Aries is without a doubt a highly auspicious configuration that will affect you if you are born around January 15, February 13, March 15, April 15, May 16, June 16, July 17, August 18, October 18 or December 17.

Your love life may prosper under this transit, you may receive nice comments or gifts all over, get money more easily and make wishes come true. Life is beautiful, you feel lucky and/or happy!

However, for others, May 10-11 may prove to become a burden, especially on a material level because of Mars entering the most material and possessive zodiac sign Taurus. You want to fight for your goods and possessions as much as possible and don't want to give an inch.

For the coming days, your focus is on your possessions and possible purchases/expenses.

If you are born around December 29, February 11, March 28, May 13, June 29, August 15, October 1, November 15 or December 29, expect lots of tension and stress around May 13. You need to release tension and stress and show lots of resistance to outer forces and circumstances that try to force you in a certain direction you don't want to follow. In some cases, illness and separation is possible.

In case you are born around this day of May 13, your whole (solar return) year is marked by tension and stress and trying to cope with it. Find an outlet to release the tension.

Mercury and Venus both enter the fixed earth sign Taurus around May 16 as a couple, favoring the love life of all earth signs (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn) for the next weeks.

Aside from Mercury (and the Sun), the planets of love (Venus and Mars) now too reside in Taurus, making it a wondrous time to find love.

May 17 is above all an artistic day on which you live more in your head than in reality. It's a day about longings, listening to music, shooting photos, meditation and travel (in the mind).

It's likely that your mind is not so clear (it's playing tricks) and that your thinking is rather distorted. Your fantasy rules. This will be especially so if you are born around January 23, March 8, April 23, June 8, July 25, September 10, October 26 or December 10.

Mercury and Mars conjoin at 7° Taurus around May 21. You're bold in the way you communicate (talking in bullets or keywords is quite common under this transit) and you don't want to spend many words saying what's on your mind or heart. Instead you go for action.

The Sun enters mutable Gemini around May 21, bringing more "air" and movement to some heavy and earthy configurations.

Because the Sun also squares Neptune around the same day, beware of disappointments, gossip or lies. Life may be chaotic and hectic with nervousness and many changes of the place. It's a good time for reclusion and meditation or to travel (alone) though, but be aware of some confusing moments.

Venus and Mars are conjunct at 9° Taurus around May 23. It's an auspicious day to live your passions, the more so if you are born around January 29, March 15, April 30, June 16, August 2, September 18, November 2 or December 17.

Around May 29, there is news about a separation. This can be anything ranging from travel to hospitalization or even death. It's a hectic, stressful day with lots of tension. You may try to resist what the Universe imposes upon you.

What's New on Our Web Site?

These are the updates and changes we made since our previous Love Letter:
  • we updated our web page about the time people actually marry with the research results published in our previous Love Letter.
  • we added a new page about childbirth in solar return charts , based upon the research results we published some time ago in a previous Love Letter
  • because of the importance of solar activity in weather, earthquake and volcanic activity and the way it affects the behavior of living creatures (animals and humans), we, for the moment, added a simple Solar Activity status monitor on all our forecast pages in the navigation bar on the right of the pages.

The X-ray Solar status monitor downloads data periodically from the NOAA Space Environment Center FTP server. The previous 24 hours of 5 minute Long-wavelength X-ray data from each satellite (GOES 8 and GOES 10) is analyzed, and an appropriate level of activity for the past 24 hours is assigned as follows:
    • Normal: Solar X-ray flux is quiet (< 1.00e-6 W/m^2)
    • Active: Solar X-ray flux is active (>= 1.00e-6 W/m^2)
    • M Class Flare: An M Class flare has occurred (X-ray flux >= 1.00e-5 W/m^2)
    • X Class Flare: An X Class flare has occurred (X-ray flux >= 1.00e-4 W/m^2)
    • Mega Flare: An unprecedented X-ray event has occurred (X-ray flux >= 1.00e-3 W/m^2) The designation "Mega Flare" was chosen by Kevin Loch when the status monitor was created on March 4, 1999. There is no "official" designation for flares in this range.
The Geomagnetic Field status monitor downloads data periodically from the NOAA Space Environment Center FTP server. The previous 24 hours of 3 hour Planetary Kp Index data is analyzed and an appropriate level of activity for the past 24 hours is assigned as follows:
    • Quiet: the Geomagnetic Field is quiet (Kp < 4)
    • Active: the Geomagnetic Field has been unsettled (Kp=4)
    • Storm: A Geomagnetic Storm has occurred (Kp>4)

Asteroids In Synastry

We have not written a lot yet about the value of the Asteroids in chart comparison (synastry). In our May 21 2008 issue #042, we wrote about Juno in the natal chart.

We're still researching the meaning of the most important Asteroids in synastry, but, beyond a doubt, the Asteroids do work. However, you don't need (and should not use) the Asteroids to find out if a relationship will work out or not.

The Asteroids add some more detail and information to the analysis after you delineated the relationship in using the more common methods. So, we only recommend that you take the Asteroids into account after you have delineated the charts with the common methods and if you want some more "juicy details" about the relationship.

Actually, we don't really recommend using the Asteroids if you are a beginner or novice astrologer because you will lose oversight and may miss the real core and basics of the relationship.

Relationships are made (or broken) by analyzing the personal points (Ascendant, MC, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars) in different ways (aspect analysis, midpoint analysis, elemental analysis, degree areas etc.).

Even the best positioned Juno will not bring a happy couple if there are disharmonious or hard exact Saturn inter-aspects to the personal points of the other partner or if there are detrimental midpoints between both.

As far as our understanding goes by researching the Asteroids in synastry, the Asteroids rather describe (shared) events that the couple is likely to experience. It's less about what keeps the partners together as such.

Some people think they need good Eros inter-aspects for a fulfilled sexual relationship and they focus on Eros without having analyzed the personal points in the chart comparison. That's erroneous thinking because the core of the relationship is built by the personal points and planets. Sexual compatibility does not depend on the Asteroid Eros (alone).

What Asteroids can be used in the chart comparison?

Actually, virtually every single Asteroid can be used on condition that you keep a very very tight orb. Never exceed 1° and the closer the aspect, the better.

However, using 10,000+ Asteroids in a chart comparison has no significance, no merit, no value and should be avoided. If you want to give some value to the delineation, only use a very small number of pertinent Asteroids to begin with.

If you study the Asteroids yourself, you will find lots of controversy in the meaning of Asteroids and that's also why we don't recommend a beginner to use the Asteroids to delineate the relationship. As long as it's not clear what the core meaning of the Asteroid is, it's best to not use them or only use the Asteroids for the purpose of research.

If you really want to use Asteroids in synastry, we recommend using the following ones for a start, aside from the Name Asteroids of the involved persons:
  • Sappho: this Asteroid is told to have an interest in sex, resulting in sexual charisma or sexual activity. However, in some instances, Sappho is the Asteroid of friendship and has no sexual connotation. More research is needed.
  • Eros: this Asteroid denotes passionate attachment, the life force and sexual instincts. It can be very possessive.
  • Amor: this Asteroid is about the potential for intimacy. It is said to describe if love is conditional or not.
  • Juno: this Asteroid is about protocol and ceremonies. We are still not convinced that in synastry, it points to the "marriage partner" though in some instances a double whammy inter-aspect between Juno and the Sun has been found between married couples. So, there may be something on to it. Because there were many other important "marriage configurations" found, it's not sure if this double whammy made the difference though. More research is needed here. Juno may be related to any form of relationship interaction between two people.
  • Hera: this Asteroid is told to be another "Juno" with the same meanings. It's odd that two Asteroids are interchangeable and this just shows that the real meaning is not yet found.
  • Cupido-A: this Asteroid should not be confused with the hypothetical Transneptunian Planet (TNP) Cupido which is used by the Hamburg School of Astrology (Uranian astrology). The Asteroid is related to the outer appearance and attraction.
  • Lilith: this Asteroid (indeed, it's the body, NOT the sensitive point Lilith also called the mean apogee of the Moon, Dark or Black Moon) is about rejection, rivalry and competing and is often found in 3-way love affairs.
  • Ophelia: this Asteroid represents sorrow in love, unrequited love. Hence, it's distrustful of love.
When using the Asteroids in synastry (chart comparison) we find it "unscientific" to use orbs wider than 1°. The 1° orb is a maximum, not a minimum! Unfortunately, we have not found any reliable research studies yet that take into account the Asteroids with such a narrow orb.

Our own investigations are not conclusive and not ready for publication yet. We do have some thoughts however, that we want to share now.

Regarding the Asteroid Juno we noticed that in some cases Juno is posited in the Sun sign of the partner to whom one is married.

For example: in a female natal chart, we found Juno in the zodiac sign Scorpio. Her husband was a Scorpio. In the natal chart of her husband, we found Juno in Cancer; his wife was born under the zodiac sign Cancer.

Though this configuration is not statistically significant, we found the connection between Juno and the zodiac sign of the partner confirmed in different other charts, which is remarkable anyway.

Another inconclusive but remarkable finding of our research has to do with the conjunction (orb 1°) of a personal point in the natal chart of one partner (especially the Ascendant) to one of the above listed Asteroids in the chart of the other partner (in most cases we noticed this especially with Amor, Eros or Juno).

We have long been searching the internet to find an ephemeris you can use to find the positions of the Asteroids we mentioned.

Unfortunately, we did not find anything... That's why we used our Solar Fire software to generate an ephemeris that lists the positions of the Asteroids we recommend in synastry. In the following pdf-document (119 pages, about 4MB) we list all the positions from 1900 till 2050 in a weekly interval.
