CosmiTec's Love Letter, Issue #009 -- How To Rate Compatibility?
August 21, 2005
Hi

Now that astronomers found a 10th Planet (however, the name "Planet" is already very contested and should actually read "Kuiper Belt planet"), astrologers will start speculating about its meaning (and rulership). They most probably will delineate the horoscope of the exact time of the finding and will correlate the planet to the events that happened around this period (the ending of the IRA armed campaigns, the dramatic "breakthrough" regarding the London bombings, but also the horrible weather conditions worldwide, the findings of ice lakes on Mars, etc...).

The rule is that the discoveryy of any new astronomical object that is worth being called a planet symbolizes the actual consciousness. We hope there will be some empirical research before guessing what this new planet(oid) may mean. Curious what the name will be. More to come for sure!

Most important though is the transit of the planetoid Chiron through revolutionary Aquarius. In our opinion it's the transit of this planetoid that brings real "breakthroughs" (a major keyword for Chiron), in many ways.

Yes, Chiron almost always brings breakthroughs, the more so when it is posited in disruptive, groundbreaking, innovative, revolutionary, shocking but fraternal(!) Aquarius. The finding of a new planet is just one example.

We, at CosmiTec, think that more significant breakthroughs will become breaking news on different levels (in science, health, electronics, ICT, aerospace, etc...). It's just the beginning!

Regarding love relationships too, expect some stunning personal "breakthroughs" if Aquarius is in your 5th or 7th house.

In this Love Letter we continue our series about the findings of Marlis Moritz (March 2003) and the behavioral scientists Kop and Heuts about the choice of marriage partners and the month of birth.

In the second part of a series about (in)compatibility issues in relationships, we'll discuss compatibility in more detail.

Happy Birthday Virgos!

Enjoy
Luc De Jaeger

Love Forecasts for September 2005

The first days of September 2005 bring surprising events (and surprises too).

Venus conjuncts Jupiter at 18° Libra around September 2, making this quite a fortunate time if you are born around October 12, December 10, February 8, June 9 or August 11.

Expect some (financial) windfalls, small presents or gifts. Make some time for joy, social gatherings and have fun.

Around the same time, however, Pluto stations at 21° Sagittarius before moving direct. Stationing Pluto may bring its power to the maximum and denote explosive and very profound changes, especially if you are born around December 14, March 13, June 13 or September 15. Indirectly, it may affect many of us.

Depending on other aspects in your birth chart this station may bring profound sadness and obsessive thoughts in isolated cases.

Stations of Pluto never go unnoticed because of their extremely profound and often destructive side, especially if Pluto afflicts your chart.

Pluto will never pass this degree in your lifetime again (it's the last passage) so that it clearly marks the end ("death") of a chapter in your life. Now you can ascend from the past and deploy new skills and start new ventures. You will have the courage.

September 4 brings a talkative mood. You tend to be more critical and detail-oriented and tend to rate your lover(s). You want to communicate your passion by talking, rather than by doing...

The tension and nervousness gets high around September 9. Some disappointing events make you lose your temper. Keep your head cool!

Venus enters passionate and compulsive Scorpio around September 11. Will you be able to resist your feelings?

It seems that September 12 brings confusion and actions that bring no results or that lead to nothing or nowhere. Your plans may also be postponed or cancelled.

Compulsive-obsessive behavior marks September 13-17 as if you should (and even) must carry out your plan(s) NOW.

A lot of astrological aspects happen around September 18, all denoting separation and love's sorrow. You - or your lover - don't want to be pinned down now. You just seem to go your own way. Let it be...

Around September 20 is a very fortunate time to socialize and (eventually) meet Mr. or Ms. Right - or a good friend.

What's new on our Web site?

We have the following updates to report this month (installment of our 2006 yearly forecasts for the 12 zodiac signs in the next issue!):

Attraction versus Compatibility - Part 2

In our previous Love Letter, we discussed the major difference between compatibility and attraction.

We also told you that attraction is primarily related to (some specific) planetary combinations, whereas compatibility is rather related to the signs (and the houses).

We mentioned that in astrology, the zodiac signs represent the scenery and the background in one's life, the planets represent the players and the houses represent the environment and the circumstances - (keep this into your mind!!).

On our sign compatibility page, Sun sign compatibility page and Moon sign compatibility page we discussed that compatibility is built on the elemental analysis of the respective points/planets in the signs:

  • in Fire signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius
  • in Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn
  • in Air signs: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius
  • in Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces

Elements that can stand one another are told to be compatible (for example: Fire and Fire), elements that hinder one another are said to be incompatible (for example: Fire and Earth).

So far so good in case all planets and personal point are posited in one single element. But that's a real BIG exception.

So, in practice, with most planets and points placed in different signs, it's not that simple...

That's why astrologers have found methods to "measure compatibility" and to make it easier to predict general or basic (in)compatibility.

To measure basic compatibility, astrologers have been using ratings or scores that we discuss on our astrology compatibility scores page.

Even if we don't like rating systems that much, there is one system that we, at CosmiTec, use to give a general impression on basic (in)compatibility because it's quite simple and reliable.

It's the system in which we assign a weight to the planets in the signs using the following scores:

  • the Sun, Moon, Ascendant and MC get 3 points
  • Mercury, Venus and Mars get 2 points
  • Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto get 1 point

For example: The Sun in a water sign (Cancer, Scorpio or Pisces) gets 3 points. If your Ascendant is in a water sign too this will bring your total score of points/planets in water signs to 6. Etc...

Aside from the elemental analysis, we even go a step further and use the same system to analyze the "Qualities" (cardinal, fixed or mutable):

  • Cardinal signs are Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn
  • Fixed signs are Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius
  • Mutable signs are Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces

For example: The Sun in the cardinal sign Cancer gets 3 points. If your Ascendant is in another cardinal sign (Aries for example) this will bring your total score of points/planets in cardinal signs to 6. Etc...

And here then comes the final compatibility analysis:

  • take the element with the highest score
  • take the quality with the highest score
  • blend the element and quality together so that you get the related zodiac sign. Use the following list or table:
    • Aries = Cardinal Fire
    • Taurus = Fixed Earth
    • Gemini = Mutable Air
    • Cancer = Cardinal Water
    • Leo = Fixed Fire
    • Virgo = Mutable Earth
    • Libra = Cardinal Air
    • Scorpio = Fixed Water
    • Sagittarius = Mutable Fire
    • Capricorn = Cardinal Earth
    • Aquarius = Fixed Air
    • Pisces = Mutable Water

An example will make it more clear.

Let's suppose you have used the above mentioned rating system and have the following results:

    The Elements:
  • Fire: score = 5
  • Earth: score = 8
  • Air: score = 3
  • Water: score = 7
    The Qualities:
  • Cardinal: score = 10
  • Fixed: score = 5
  • Mutable: score = 8

The heighest score in the elemental analysis is Earth (8 points) and the heighest score in the qualities goes to the Cardinal signs (10 points).

In our example: blending Cardinal and Earth gives us the sign Capricorn.

Do the same for your partner, take a look at the elemental division and the qualities of the planets and points and blend the result to the single related zodiac sign by taking a look at the list above.

Compatibility between two people exists when the resulting signs are compatible or match (they should conjunct, sextile or trine another). If they square or oppose another, the compatibility is lesser. In case the zodiac signs are inconjunct one another there is basic incompatibility (even if there is irresistible attraction!).

Let's suppose that in our example one partner is related to Capricorn and the other partner is related to Aries. We know that both signs square one another in the natural order of the zodiac, bringing tension and disputes. So, actually, there is minor (in)compatibility.

If one partner is related to Capricorn and the other partner is related to Taurus, we can speak of basic compatibility (even if there is no attraction at all).

That's the importance of the difference between compatibility and attraction: you can be totally and irresistibly attracted to somebody you are not compatible with and vice versa; you can be totally compatible with somebody you are not attracted to!

Some people marry out of attraction, even if they are not compatible and others marry because they are compatible with one another even if there is almost no attraction.

The Elemental division and the Qualities are the basics in astrology! If you try to grasp the deeper meaning of these basics, your understanding of astrology and typology will skyrocket!

For now, we have discussed a way to assess basic (in)compatibility, but we have not mentioned how to assess attraction. You may also ask why we talk about incompatibility when mentioning inconjuncts and not squares... And what about living with an irresistible attractive hubby with whom you seem to be incompatible?

We will answer these questions in the next issues of our Love Letter, starting with the inconjuncts next month...
