CosmiTec's Love Letter, Issue #081 -- Midpoints In Love
August 21, 2011
Dear

In this Love Letter we delve deeper into a much neglected but highly important method: midpoints. While there is much to talk about this rather technical topic, we will keep it to the basics.

But not knowing or using the midpoints is missing a huge scientific and reliable method in astrology. No serious astrologer can do without it.

This method does not replace the common aspect analysis but it's an additional tool that gives much more detail.

We're doing tons of work to make some improvements on our web site (as you may notice) and as this takes lots of our time too, we have not been adding any new content recently.

Everything has its time and there is a time to everything!

Cheers
Luc De Jaeger

Love Forecasts for September 2011

If you are born around January 24, March 9, April 24, June 10, July 27, September 12, October 27 or December 11 you will notice that this month of September 2011 will bring quite some turning points into your life, especially around September 6, 12, 19 and 24. If your natal Sun is not aspected by natal Saturn, the outcome will be auspicious. In case natal Saturn aspects your Sun, the days may become quite challenging.

The first week of September is rather calm for the most of us. There are only some configurations or aspects at work and they are quite positive and relate to some increased optimism and joy.

Around September 6, social Venus at 19° Virgo squares the connecting Moon's Nodes, resulting in less enjoyable social contacts. You may feel misunderstood and your social life is now at a low point. You are not really in the mood for socializing.

However, if you are born around January 24, March 9, April 24, June 10, July 27, September 12, October 27 or December 11 you are likely to experience a turning point in your life regarding relationships around September 6. If your natal Sun is not aspected by natal Saturn, the outcome will be auspicious. In case natal Saturn aspects your Sun, the day has separative influences.

Mercury at 29° Leo opposes Neptune at 29° Aquarius around September 8. We will again experience miscommunication and confusion. Beware of lies, secrets and untold information. Concentration is usually low around this time and you better wait till the fog/mist clears up and everything becomes more clear when Mercury enters its own sign Virgo on September 9.

If you are born around March 13, June 14, September 16 or December 15, expect sadness, love's sorrow and separation from loved ones around Serptember 9. The atmosphere is chilly and the focus and mindset is on illness and hospitalization.

With Mercury now in its own sign Virgo, you are realistic, discriminating and analytical in your work. After all, Virgo is not only a health-conscious zodiac sign, it's also very work-related. The daily working environment and health issues take up your mental and emotional time so that it's not the right time to focus on love.

Wait for Venus to enter Libra quite soon to become more sociable, less critical and more loveable.

Around the Full Moon of September 12, the Sun at 18° Virgo squares the Moon's Nodes. You may experience a setback, cannot unfold properly and some ego-conflicts may arise.

However, if you are born around January 24, March 9, April 24, June 10, July 27, September 12, October 27 or December 11 you are likely to experience a turning point in your life regarding relationships around this Full Moon day. If your natal Sun is not aspected by natal Saturn, the outcome will be auspicious. In case natal Saturn aspects your Sun, the day has separative influences.

September 13 brings windfalls, fortunate moments and successful endeavors if you are born around January 13, February 26, April 13, May 29, July 15, August 31, October 16 or November 30.

Venus enters its own sign Libra around September 15. The entrance results in social contacts, meetings, new encounters that may be very transformative (life-changing), impressive and even overwhelming. This is the more so because Pluto is now at its station at 4° Capricorn and is about to turn direct again on September 16. Destiny may call and the one you may meet now, may change your life fundamentally. Signing a contract can be rewarding in case the Moon is NOT void of course.

If you are born around January 19, March 4, April 19, June 4, July 21, September 6, October 22 or December 6, the time around the Pluto station of September 16-17 may be full of dissatisfaction. For some of you legal issues pop up, others will experience harsh disputes or health issues. Anyway, meetings may end in verbal fights. Mind your words.

Around September 17, Venus at 2° Libra opposes Uranus at 2° Aries. Mid September is marked by impressive (love) encounters, often unexpectedly. For some of you, nice presents and windfalls will occur.

If you are born around March 23, June 24, September 26 or December 25, you will enjoy some nice surprises.

However, because of the increasing intensity of Pluto during its station, too much of a good thing can be too much and when Venus at 4° Libra squares intense Pluto at 4° Capricorn around September 19, expect some scandals and outbursts of rage.

Do know that Venus and Pluto are actually opposites (Venus as the mundane ruler of Taurus and Pluto as the mundane ruler of Scorpio). When two planets that rule opposite zodiac signs clash, expect some severe issues related to the topics the planets and zodiac signs represent. Both planets are about money one way or the other as well as encounters and sex.

Because Mars enters fiery Leo around the same day of the Venus-Pluto clash around September 19, there is a highly aggressive and brutal undertone noticeable.

Compulsive-obsessive behavior is part of the picture around these days and things are out of balance. Indeed, stationing Pluto brings Venus in peaceful Libra temporarily out of balance.

Also, around the same day of September 19, Mercury at 18° Virgo squares the Moon's Nodes, resulting in worries and anxiety. There is more stress and tension while communication is blocked. These days are not good for travel/trips.

People may so easily get on your nerves now and it's best to avoid upsetting your relationships (in a large sense) by avoiding anyone around these days who make you feel uncomfortable.

However, if you are born around January 24, March 9, April 24, June 10, July 27, September 12, October 27 or December 11 you are likely to receive important news around September 19. If your natal Sun is not aspected by natal Saturn, the news message will be auspicious. In case natal Saturn aspects your Sun, the day may bring more sorrow.

The Sun enters Libra around September 23 and will re-balance the energies.

If you are born around January 24, March 9, April 24, June 10, July 27, September 12, October 27 or December 11 you may get a new job or enter new working circumstances or start new projects around September 24. If your natal Sun is not aspected by natal Saturn, the outcome will be auspicious. In case natal Saturn aspects your Sun, this day of September 24 may bring oppression and lots of resistance to overcome.

The Sun will not be able to keep energies in balance for long as the Sun will soon oppose upsetting Uranus at 2° Aries around September 26 so that there is some turmoil noticeable in your relationships (at large). You want to find balance and try to be as diplomatic as possible with the help of communicative Mercury, who also entered Libra around September 26.

Mercury is now part of the Libra stellium (together with the Sun, Saturn and Venus) and adds to the need to (re)act with diplomacy and trying to be reasonable.

Because of the Libra stellium, the focus is on all your relationships for the coming weeks. Also, if you are Pisces, Aries, Taurus or Scorpio, you are entering a more challenging period till the October 12 Full Moon during which you may experience more sorrow.

Mercury at 2° Libra opposes Uranus at 2° Libra around the New Moon of September 27. Your sharp and alert mind resolves issues and you are quick to see things through intuitively.

If you are born around these days of September 24-26, the Sun/Mercury opposition to upsetting and unsettling Uranus will mark your whole (solar return) year (from birthday to birthday) and denoting sudden upheaval and unexpected news regarding and affecting all your relationships (at large).

Note that the September 27 perigee New Moon is a SuperMoon, the first in a row till the end of the year, so that it's likely to bring more wild or extreme weather (incl. earthquakes and/or volcanic activity).

Around September 28, the Sun AND Mercury, both at 4° Libra, square Pluto at 4° Capricorn resulting in some power conflicts. Clearly, diplomacy is not always working well and ego-driven behavior disrupts the balance. There is annoyance and tunnel-vision. Someone (is it you?) wants to push his or her vision through at all cost.

The Sun and Mercury conjoin at 5° Libra around the same day of September 28. You may enjoy traveling, writing or speaking out.

If you are born around December 27, March 26, June 27 or September 29, you are likely to experience favorable news opening new doors around September 28. Especially keep an eye on auspicious news through your mobile phone or e-mails.

Venus and Saturn conjoin at 18° Libra around September 30. You have to take your responsabilities regarding your relationships and partnership. It's a good time to find out what binds you. The Venus-Saturn combo is all about the skin, masks, outer appearances, uniforms and formal beauty.

In a more challenging way, it is related to restraints, indecision and, unfortunately, separation from loved ones. Some of you may find love with a (much) older person.

Also, the Venus-Saturn conjunction may represent the 'caretaker' too and it's an aspect that is often related to helping the elderly.

What's New on Our Web Site?

The past weeks, we have been very busy doing web site improvements instead of adding new content. Not everything is visible, but it's all part of the redesigning of our whole site.
  • we added another bunch of testimonials
  • to make our web site more compliant with as many browsers and computers as possible, we are still busy rewriting lots of pages that currently redirect the visitor of a page to another page through html anchors. This is especially the case if you order one of our services and are redirected to one of our forms on which you have to fill in your birth information, after the PayPal payment window.

Because we use lots of html anchors to redirect to the correct form, it happens that customers are redirected to the wrong form in case the web browser or computer does not "see or read" the html anchors. This is the case with the iPad devices (for example).

To avoid frustrations and confusion, we are building new pages you will be redirected to, instead of being redirected to html anchors on an existing page.

Needless to say, this is another HUGE time-consuming and additional workload thanks to the incompatibilities between browsers (older and newer ones) and computers/devices. People may think this has to do with our web site, but it's not. Anyway, we're trying to make sure our web site is a nice experience for as many people as possible.

  • we have been doing minor changes and improvements to our web site. We're trying out a new top image, new colors in the right nav bar and have centered our whole site now. It's all part of the redesign of the whole site we're continuously working on.

Midpoints In Love

The majority of people who practice or study (real or serious) astrology don't use or know the midpoint system. However, the midpoint system is one of the most reliable tools an astrologer can have, the more so because the midpoints are quite well researched and can be used "scientifically" in that they have the same scope of meanings.

Any astrologer who takes him- or herself (and astrology) serious, should learn and use the midpoints. Not doing so is missing a huge part of the puzzle!

So, in this first article of a series, we explore the midpoints in a more general way so that you hopefully will understand the principle(s) and why we rate this system so highly. In the following articles, we'll more specifically discuss the midpoints in matters of love.

What are Midpoints?

A midpoint is (litterally) a (sensitive) point half-way between two planets/points/bodies; it is the half-distance between two planets/points/bodies.

This sensitive (mid)point may be occupied by a third planet/point/body or it may be in aspect to a third planet/point/body.

For Example:

If you find Mars at 5° Aries and Uranus at 25° Aries, then the Mars/Uranus midpoint is right in-between both planets at 15° Aries.

That's an easy one! Now another one:

If you find Mars at 5° Aries and Uranus at 5° Leo, the the Mars/Uranus midpoint is right in-between at 5° Gemini.

These are the DIRECT midpoints because they are right in-between two planets/points/bodies along the shortest distance of the horoscope wheel. Any planet/point/body eaxctly at this (sensitive) midpoint takes on, is colored by the meanings of both planets/points/bodies.

For Example:

If we find Mercury at 15° Aries when Mars is at 5° Aries and Uranus at 25° Aries, then we have a DIRECT (occupied) midpoint.

We write this as follows: ME = MA/UR which reads as Mercury (ME) is at the midpoint (=) between Mars and Uranus (MA/UR). We always use the international two-letter notations of the planets/points/bodies (see later) when writing about midpoint structures.

The meaning of this (direct) midpoint (which ALWAYS contains three planets/points/bodies) is a blend of the meanings of the three factors.

Fortunately, you don't have to find out what this all might signify because some truly brilliant and meticulous astrologers have researched the meaning of all possible midpoints statistically and empirically for us all (see later).

In our example the planet is EXACTLY at the point in-between two others. However, this is not mandatory. We allow a maximum orb of 1° so that if Mercury would be between 14° - 16° Aries, it would still be in the direct midpoint of Mars/Uranus. In other words, Mercury would still be conjunct (0°, orb 1°) the Mars/Uranus midpoint.

Hopefully, this is still quite easy to understand and follow so far.

Now that you understand the basic meaning of a midpoint, we can go a step further.

Actually and by extension, aside from the sensitive midpoints (points in-between two planets/points/bodies) occupied by (i.e. conjunct) another planet/point/body, as discussed above, this sensitive (mid)point can also be aspected by any other planet/point/body by a 45°, 90°, 135° or 180° aspect.

This means that EVERY planet/point/body that builds a 0°, 45°, 90°, 135° or 180° aspect to that sensitive midpoint is significant.

For example:

If Mars is at 5° Aries and Uranus is at 25° Aries, then ANY planet that is at 15° Aries (0°), 0° Gemini/Pisces (45° away from 15° Aries), 15° Cancer/Capricorn (90° away from 15° Aries), 0° Virgo/Sagittarius (135° away from 15° Aries) or 15° Libra (180° away from 15° Aries) builds the midpoint. If Mercury would be at 0° Virgo, we would still say that ME = MA/UR or Mercury is at the Mars/Uranus midpoint.

All multiples of the 45° aspect that 'aspect' that sensitive point in-between two other planets/points/bodies still build a midpoint structure in an INDIREECT way. But the meaning remains the same as if it built a DIRECT midpoint (0° aspect or conjunction).

When using the indirect midpoints, here too the aspect should not be exact. We again allow an orb of maximum 1°.

So, if Mercury is between 14° -16° Cancer, Mars at 5° Aries and Uranus at 25° Aries, we now know that ME = MA/UR, Mercury is still at the midpoint between Mars and Uranus. The meaning of this configuration, according to CoSi (see later) is: surgery, independent actions/activities, tension and nerves, taking calculated risks etc...

Why taking multiples of 45°? Because it has shown that these aspects bring action, trigger events and bring things out in the open. These aspects are related to the 8th Harmonic (a way of dividing a horoscope wheel).

More advanced astrologers use other Harmonics (other divisions) -- but that's another story and a more difficult and complex one.

If different midpoint structures have the same (sensitive) point occupied, then we talk about a planetary picture. So, a planetary picture consists of at least two midpoints with the same basic planet/point/body.

For Example:

If Mercury is at 0° Gemini, Mars at 5° Aries and Uranus at 25° Aries, we know that ME = MA/UR. If at the same time the Venus/Pluto midpoint would be posited at 0° Virgo we would have the following planetary picture: ME = MA/UR = VE/PL. Mercury is at the Mars/Uranus midpoint as well as at the Venus/Pluto midpoint.

Delineating midpoints is quite easy especially with the help of CoSi. However, delineating planetary pictures (different midpoints together) becomes more and more difficult, the more so if many different planets/points/bodies (with often opposite meanings) are involved in the picture.

Blending the meaning of three planets is do-able. Even a fourth planet is do-able, but when more planets or bodies are found in the picture, it becomes challenging to find out the core meaning.

That's where predictions often fail! It takes heaps of experience and years and years of practice to learn to delineate multiple midpoints and planetary pictures.

We like comparing the planetary pictures with a puzzle. Each piece of the puzzle is a single midpoint structure (of 3 planets/points/bodies). It's the different midpoint structures together that build a planetary picture and show you the total image of the puzzle. So, before judging, you have to make sure you have all the important pieces (midpoint structures) together. If not, the image of the puzzle will be distorted and so will be your prediction/analysis.

Do know that the most exact midpoints (orb 0° 00' - 0° 01') ALWAYS manifest and it's wise to start with these very exact midpoints to understand how valuable this method is and how reliable at the same time!

Want More?

For further study and understanding, we only recommend one single book that explains the method and lists and delineates all midpoints with three planets/points/bodies thoroughly, it's a real masterpiece and called Combination of Stellar Influences (CoSi) by Reinhold Ebertin. You only need this book to know how it works and what it all means.

Even when, in the mean time, other astrologers have written additional books explaining and delineating the midpoints, the original one by R. Ebertin still stands out and is internationally recognized as the best one.

Calculating the Midpoints?

Now if you wonder how to calculate all these midpoints in a horoscope, because manually this can be a HUGE task, almost all modern software programs have a midpoint feature (often called midpoint trees, midpoint structures, midpoints, ...).

If you don't have access to a software program, there are some free online tools on the internet that may get you going:
  • this is a very simple online midpoint calculator to find the sensitive point in-between two planets

  • Check out Astrodienst's web site at www.astro.com.
    1. in the left nav bar, you will see "Free Horoscopes." Click that link/button.
    2. then select "Horoscope Drawings & Calculations"
    3. click "Extended Chart Selection"
    4. login if you already have an account OR add a profile with your exact birth information and follow the directions on the screen to enter the details
    5. don't change the circular chart default setting and go to the chart drawing style option and select "Ebertin Style (w. midpoints)"
    6. click the blue button "Click here to show the chart"
    7. on the top left of the screen, click the blue link reading "View the additional tables (PDF)"
    8. you get a midpoint listing under the heading "Midpoint structures and aspects" beside the common aspects. Please note that the orbs are wider 1°30' and 2°! We DON'T recommend using wider orbs than 1° and it's best to only read these!!
