Progressed Synastry

Is He The Right Man For You?

In the astrological world, it's occasionally discussed how people can be so attracted to each other while their natal horoscopes show very little compatibility (like no Sun-Moon-Ascendant contacts, no Venus-Mars contacts etc.).

Natal horoscopes are a projection of the stellar configurations at the static moment of one's birth (especially at the moment of the first breath).

However, as this Universe is all about development (nothing stands still or is static, ever), from the moment of birth, the static natal horoscope starts to progress further in sync with the developing baby in space-time.

In astrology, this development is shown by the (secondary) progressions, following the key "1 day after birth equals 1 year after birth."

Hence, it's only self-deceptive to assume that a natal horoscope is a static chart and that's why ancient astrologers described the natal chart as the radix (the root, the base chart) out of which life and all its events and experiences unfold in a dynamic and preprogrammed way from the beginning at birth to the end.

Modern astrology has deviated from these dynamic principles by suggesting aspects are static, not taking into account aspects are just part of dynamic cycles and rhythms while moving in waning and waxing phases.

When people meet someone of real significance during their lifetime, this is going to be reflected in the progressed charts and even in the progressed inter-chart comparison between both people.

There is evidence that the chart comparison between the progressed charts and the natal to progressed charts are more telling, more important than the simple inter-chart comparison of the natal horoscopes (synastry) alone.

Lots of astrological research has been done in these fields by, among others: Marion D. March and Joan McEvers, Robert P. Blaschke and especially, Paul Westran.

Still, more research is absolutely necessary.

Paul Westran found a statistical correlation that intimate relationships are more likely to occur when natal or progressed Venus in one person's chart at the start of the relationship builds a conjunction, trine or opposition aspect (orb 2°) with the natal or progressed Sun, Venus or Mars of the second person's chart.

Progressed synastry is more complicated than simple natal synastry because natal synastry requires that only both natal horoscopes are compared while progressed synastry involves two natal charts and two progressed charts that need to be combined (natal to natal, natal to progressions, and progressions to progressions).

Even converse progressed charts can be used additionally, making reading and comparing the horoscopes way more complicated.

It makes sense that delineating all these horoscopes is a time-consuming task, with the risk of delineating not so relevant configurations or also projecting whatever you want to prove (the so-called confirmation bias).

So, it takes an analytical and discerning mind to use progressed synastry in practice.

We do recommend using progressed synastry though because it is so much more telling and valuable but just keep it to the highly compelling statistical research findings by Paul Westran to start with.
