The Astrology of Transnational or Cross-national Love Bonds

Introduction

In this article we want to discuss some astrological indications, configurations or patterns that are found in the natal horoscopes of transnational or cross-national couples.

It's not about synastry (chart comparison), but about how to spot in a natal horoscope that your partner or one of them will not be born in your own country.

To find out, we also checked the natal horoscopes of some celebrities who became cross-national couples too.

Some transnational celebrity couples

Below we list some cross-national couples that are part of the research and link to their horoscope pages:

Couple 1: prince Harry (UK) and Meghan Markle (USA)

Couple 2: Grace Kelly (USA) and Prince Rainier III (Monaco)

Couple 3: Nicole Kidman (Australia/USA birth) and Keith Urban (New Zealand/Australia) - unverified data, so leaving his chart out

Couple 4: Mick Jagger (UK) and L'Wren Scott (USA) - time unknown, so leaving her chart out

Couple 5: Catherine Zeta Jones (UK) and Michael Douglas (USA)

Couple 6: Gisele Bundchen (Brazil) and Tom Brady (USA)

Couple 7: Kate Hudson (USA) and Matt Bellamy (UK)

Couple 8: Kirk Douglas (USA) and Anne Buydens (Germany) - time unknown, so leaving her chart out

Preliminary research results (latest update: September 2026)

In total, we at Cosmic Technologies analyzed 28 natal horoscopes of people who were or still are married to someone born in another country; not enough to find any statistical results though.

Astrologically, foreign countries and foreigners are attributed to the 9th house in a horoscope so that we expect some significant patterns involving the 9th house.

Also, Jupiter is the planet representing foreign people as well so that we will be curious to find out if Jupiter too is involved in any signature or pattern.

• 12 out of 28 charts have cardinal signs on the Ascendant-Descendant axis
  
  
• in 10 charts, the (new) ruler of the 7th house was in a fire sign
  
  
• in 18 charts, Jupiter was found in the Eastern hemisphere (houses 10, 11, 12, 1, 2 or 3)
  
  
• in 18 charts, the new ruler of the 7th house was found in the Eastern hemisphere (houses 10, 11, 12, 1, 2 or 3); the old ruler was even found in 20 charts!
  
  
• in none of the 28 charts we found the Moon in the 9th house
  
  
• in none of the 28 charts we found Venus in the 4th house, a domestic house!
  
  What this suggests is that Venus in the 4th house is really attached to the home and country.
  
  
• Mercury was in an earth sign in 13 charts (chi square 5.1)
  
  
• in 14 charts, the Moon made a major or minor aspect (conjunction, semi-sextile, semi-square, sextile, square, trine, sesquisquare, inconjunct or opposition) to the ruler of the 9th house (orb 3°)
  
  
• the Sun was in the 4th Quadrant (houses 10, 11 or 12) in 12 charts (chi square 3.6) and in 19 charts in the Southern hemisphere (houses 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12)
  
  
• in 19 charts, Uranus was in the Northern Hemisphere (houses 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6)
  
  
• the (new) ruler of the 9th house was in a mutable sign in 12 charts

Additionally, in some charts there was a connection between Jupiter and the 7th house cusp or its ruler (Orlando Bloom, Javier Bardem).

What stood out where the aspects the ruler of the 9th house made though (orb 3°):

• ruler of the 9th house conjunct the Descendant (7th house cusp): George Clooney, Gisele Bündchen, Antonio Banderas
• ruler of the 9th house in the 7th house: David Bowie, Melanie Griffith
• ruler of the 9th house sextile the Descendant (7th house cusp): Javier Bardem
• ruler of the 9th house semi-sextile the Descendant (the 7th house cusp): Meghan Markle
• ruler of the 9th house conjunct the 9th house cusp or in the sign of the 9th house: Prince Harry, Matthew Bellamy, Tony Parker
• ruler of the 9th house square the ruler of the 7th house: Tom Brady, Madonna, Rupert Murdoch, Salma Hayek
• ruler of the 9th house semi-sextile the ruler of the 7th house: Kirk Douglas
• ruler of the 9th house inconjunct the ruler of the 7th house: Prince Harry
• ruler of the 9th house sextile the ruler of the 7th house: Olivia Hussey, Elsa Pataky
• ruler of the 9th house trine the ruler of the 7th house: Claudia Schiffer
